Solar Photo-Voltaic System at Gyanangkush Residential School, Tinsukia

Situated in the rural block of Hapjan, of Tinsukia District in Assam, Gyanangkush Residential School serves as a beacon of hope for over 140 underprivileged children.

While the school provides education & housing for over 140 members on the campus, due to its remote location, the electrical power supply is very irregular. It is common for the area to suffer from long power cuts, regularly lasting 8-10 hours each day.

There are often spells where the school goes for many days without any electricity at all as well. The lack of reliable electricity also impacts access to the information and communication modes and cause issues with access to water as the motor relies on electric supply as well as cause disruptions in meal preparation due to equipment like grinders not being powered reliably.

After careful analysis of the problems facing the school based on the information available and the survey carried out by our team, Gram Oorja proposes to install the solar system with following specifications: Proposed system specifications for school: Solar PV capacity: 20 kWp

Expected Outcomes:

he solar PV system will provide uninterrupted electricity despite sunlight or grid power cuts, due to reliance on the sun for energy & battery backup.

The intervention will improve safety with consistent lighting even during outages.

Will allow ease in cooking and storage of meals due to uninterrupted power supply.

Minimizes dependence on expensive backup power sources like the inefficient diesel generator on campus with a more sustainable and clean energy source.

Enhances living conditions for school staff as well as the children

Solar Photo-Voltaic System at Shankaracharya Kanya Ashram, Jaleshpeta

Solution Technical Specifications:-

Solar PV capacity: 9.9 kWp

Impact:

The solar PV system provides uninterrupted electricity despite sunlight or grid power cuts, due to solar & battery backup. For the past week, despite heavy rain and no electricity in all nearby areas, the ashram had no issues related to power supply thanks to the system

It is ensuring the ongoing access to electronic resources for learning, enhancing the learning and development of the students on campus. The 20 computers on campus are powered now and help in aiding the educational progress of the children.

The intervention improves safety with consistent lighting even during outages.

Is allowing ease in cooking and storage of meals due to uninterrupted power supply.

Minimizes dependence on expensive backup power sources.

Enhances living conditions for school staff as well as the children.

Biogas Plant in Maihar Tehsil, Madhya Pradesh

Using coal as a fuel for cooking is a common practice in many parts of India. This practice has serious health & environmental consequences.
In Bada Akhara, situated in Maihar Tehsil in Madhya Pradesh, more than 100 students reside and study Vedic scriptures.

The kitchen utilized coal as a fuel for cooking, with approximately 100 kilograms of coal being consumed daily. Unfortunately, the use of coal for cooking on chullah contributes to indoor air pollution, emitting black carbon and particulate matter that have detrimental health effects.

To mitigate the hazardous environmental and health effects of coal burning activity during cooking in Bada Akhara, a biogas plant & use of biogas as the primary fuel for environment-friendly way of cooking was introduced.
